Defensive Handgun I is the first course in a series of three Defensive Handgun courses designed to refine your current skills as well as teach new skills and knowledge, whether you are a current/future CCW holder, armed security guard, or law enforcement officer. This course will cover ammo selection, shooting positions, ballistic gel tests, communication, and marksmanship past the 15-yard line, along with many other topics.

Most shootings happen in low or altered light, so we have a course dedicated to teaching the helpful skills and tactics necessary to give you an advantage. Some of the things we will be covering are: The different handheld positions with your flashlight and how it affects your draw, lights, and gear selection. Meet our staff
Ray brings extensive experience and advanced training to his role as a firearms instructor. He attended the FBI Instructor School in Stockton, Subject Matter Expert in firearms for Operational Skills Group (OSG); he is highly skilled in both firearms proficiency and instructional methodologies. Ray served as a reserve police officer for 16 years, providing him with a strong foundation in real-world practical knowledge and firearm application. Has trained with some of the best firearms instructors in the country, making him a valuable asset in firearms education, active threat preparedness, and an overall firearms nerd.
Joey is the creative mind behind the classes, always looking for new ways to improve lessons and facilitate learning for all types of students, from beginners to experienced shooters. He has attended Gunsite and Thunder Ranch, where he continues to hone his skills in firearm handling and safety. Joey has a passion for revolvers, with his favorite being either a N-Frame 45ACP Moon Clip or a N-Frame in 44 Special.
Gabriel is an RSO (Range Safety Officer) who has worked at Valley Armory & Gunsmithing for about three years. He got the nickname 'Termite' from some friends one day while shooting at the range, and he shot the wood to the point that it had to be replaced, hence the nickname 'Termite.' Gabriel's favorite gun is a Commander 1911.
